Great Beginnings is a midwifery program located at Fremont Medical Center, designed to provide pregnancy care and a satisfying birth experience, giving women vigilant care beginning with the first confirmation of pregnancy through labor, delivery and follow-up.

At Great Beginnings, expectant mothers receive:

• An initial physical examination, including laboratory tests.

• Ongoing prenatal care.

• Nutrition advice, child birth preparation, breast feeding information  and personal health education.

• Delivery and hospitalization services.

• Care for mothers and babies in the hospital after delivery.

• Follow-up post partum care, including family planning.

• Professional and personalized care is provided by

Certified Nurse-Midwives who are members of the

medical staff of the Fremont-Rideout Health Group.

• Physicians are available for consultation and referral  when necessary.

Who is a Certified Nurse-Midwife?

These professionals are registered nurses who have completed advanced clinical training and are certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. In addition, they are licensed to practice midwifery in the State of California.

For centuries, women have looked to midwives to advise and assist them in childbirth. Certified Nurse-Midwives today carry on this tradition of personal, family-centered care. In addition to specializing in normal pregnancy care, today’s nurse-midwives are also highly skilled professionals, able to draw on the resources of modern medicine to give patients the best care possible.
