The Neurosurgery Center brings together the skills, experience and expertise of board certified neurosurgeons Terry (Cully) Cobb, M.D., Barry N. French, M.D., and Praveen Prasad, M.D.  Each of these physicians will be in residence on a rotating basis so there is always on-call care available.

 

 

Dr. Praveen Prasad is a board certified Neurosurgeon who is additionally board certified in Internal Medicine.  He specializes in spine surgery including cervical disc replacement, “minimally invasive” techniques, “failed back syndrome”, neuromodulation, and other procedures related to chronic pain conditions.  Dr. Prasad is on the clinical faculty at UCD Medical Center and is a frequent speaker for physician/surgeon training courses and programs.  He was educated at Stanford University and University of California, Davis, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Honor Medical Society.  Before returning to California in 2000, Dr. Prasad was Chief of Neurosurgery at Western Neurological Institute in Salt Lake City.  Born in India, Dr. Prasad spent much of his early childhood in Canada before moving to Stanford.  He is married, has three children in college, and is very excited about joining our community.

Dr. Barry French is a board certified neurosurgeon who specializes in spinal surgery, reconstructive and “minimally invasive”. Dr. French completed medical school, graduating with honors and completed neurosurgical residency at the University of Toronto . During this period he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, received the K. G. McKenzie award from the Canadian Neurosurgical Society, and later the Medal in Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He then joined the faculty of the University of California , Davis Department of Neurological Surgery where he published 28 peer reviewed papers in scientific journals, wrote seven textbook chapters and presented 33 papers at national and international scientific meetings. After attaining Associate Professorship and appointment as Acting Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery, he entered private practice at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento . Dr. French has served as Chief of the Department of Surgery, Chair of the Sections of Spine Surgery and of Neurosurgery and was Co-Director of the Sutter Neuroscience Center during its formative years. He is a member of the Sutter Neuroscience Center and a partner in Northern California Neurological Surgeons.

 

 Dr. Cully Cobb is a board certified neurosurgeon who has a special interest in intracranial neurosurgery.  He completed medical school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he was a Borden Scholar studying lipid metabolism.  After General Surgery at UCLA he moved to Houston, Texas for his Neurosurgical Residency.  During this time he spent 6 months in neurology at Queen’s Square in London and received microneurosurgery training with Dr. Gazi Yasargil in Zurich.  After completing neurosurgical training he joined the faculty at University of California, Davis Department of Neurological Surgery where he was director of the Neurosurgical ICU.  He left the University for private practice at Sutter General Hospital.  He has authored  28 papers and 5 book chapters and given many presentations.  He is a founding member of the Sacramento Comprehensive Epilepsy Program  and the Sutter Deep Brain Stimulation Program, is the Medical Director for the Sutter Gamma Knife Center, is Chief of the Sutter Neurosurgery Section, and is one of the two neurosurgeons with the University of California, Davis Epilepsy Program.
