Schools

The Sutter County Superintendent of Schools Office is a learning organization committed to collaboration, lifelong learning, the promotion of self-sufficient individuals, and professional support at every level of the education system.

Local schools offer a wide variety of educational opportunities. Our schools are proud of their students' SAT scores which rank high among California's schools; 69 percent of our high school students graduate, compared to only 53 percent statewide.

Yuba College, a two-year community institution, offers funded vocational and technical training, as well as an academic curriculum that is fully transferable to the California State University and the University of California. Of particular note is their Corporate Contract Training Program.

Nearby four-year colleges and universities include California State University, Chico; California State University, Sacramento; and the University of California, Davis. All are within a leisurely one-hour drive.

Recreation

Yuba-Sutter... the Undiscovered California

Yuba-Sutter is a magnificent untapped and underdeveloped resource. Visit our lakes and streams. Discover a rich history hidden in museums, temples and churches built by men and women of many faiths who settled Yuba City and Marysville in the mid-1880s Gold Rush. Come back for our festivals, fairs and concerts. Tour the remnants of our past and view the vistas of our future. Visit us once, you'll come back for more.

The lakes and streams offer plenty of water sports for residents and visitors to Yuba-Sutter. Water skiers and wind surfers zig zag across wakes, while swimmers stay closer to shore. Deep pools in the Yuba River and at the base of Beale Falls test more adventuresome swimmers and divers. There's even limited white water for rafters.

Nearby waterways teem with fish and waterfowl. The Yuba, Feather and Sacramento Rivers offer trout, salmon, striper, and steelhead fishing. Bass, brown trout and kokanee populate mountain lakes, and nearby snow-fed streams issue a challenge to the avid fly fisherman and outdoorsman.

You can get a different view of Yuba-Sutter from horseback. River bottom trails and country backroads are ideal for horseback riding. If you prefer watching horses to riding them, Yuba-Sutter is Rodeo Country. Stampede fever hits town in May when the Flying U Rodeo
