Robert Chason, Rideout chief executive officer, is to be commended for trying to improve our community's only acute care hospital. It is a difficult endeavor after years of a lackadaisical attitude toward quality of care by the members of the Rideout board of directors. This board is the decision-making body and is not to be confused with the Rideout foundation. The foundation raises money for the hospital.
Chason has taken on the task of trying to provide us with a well-functioning hospital. He retired from UC Davis after 27 years with the last four as CEO of the medical center in Sacramento. He oversaw the introduction of telemedicine, electronic health records and the partnership with Rideout that created the Cancer Center in Marysville.
We are very fortunate to have someone with his intelligence, education, expertise, knowledge and commitment. There were many issues that needed to be resolved when he took over as CEO, and new ones have occurred. He has taken on the challenge of improving quality of care, the certification of the new emergency department and new addition and trying to improve public relations with community residents. I applaud his efforts.
