R. Keith McAfee, MD, brings to the Rideout Primary Care Clinic at Plumas St., (in partnership with UC Davis Health System), a wealth of experience in primary care medicine both in California and abroad.
Dr. McAfee has been in family practice in Yuba City since 1993, prior to this he was a private physician at the US Army CHAMPUS clinic in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, providing medical care to family members of active-duty soldiers stationed there. Before his stay in Germany, he spent a year at Yolo County Hospital as an Emergency Room physician.
Dr. McAfee received his BA in biology from UCLA, where his studies included a year abroad at George August University in Goettingen, Germany where he studied zoology and developed his German language fluency. He received a Masters degree at the New College for Advanced Christian Studies in Berkeley and his MD from the University of California at Davis. During medical school he took off one year to work to pay for medical school. He completed his internship and residency in family practice at Merrithew Memorial Hospital in Martinez. Between his internship and residency, he stayed home for a year with their daughter and foster children, working part-time at a family practice clinic, while his wife completed her pediatrics residency.
He has a particular interest in the fields of diabetes care and autism, authoring the chapter "Medication Management in Autism" in the book, The Official Autism 101 Manual, published in 2006 by Autism Today. Dr. McAfee's oldest daughter is autistic.
Dr. McAfee's comprehensive family practice provides healthcare for patients of all ages from newborns to the elderly, including minor office surgeries, psychiatric care and health maintenance. He continues to follow and coordinates care for his patients in the Hospital.
Dr. McAfee is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
