About the Cancer Center

Rideout Cancer Center, Close to Home
The Rideout Health and UC Davis Health System formed a powerful alliance in the fight against cancer in our community when they joined forces to open the Cancer Center in Marysville in 2000.

The 21,000 - square-foot facility is equipped with state-of-the-art radiation oncology and telemedicine equipment, conference rooms for patient education and a cancer resource education center. Outpatient chemotherapy and radiation therapy as well as services for cancer prevention, screening and education are all available in one location. In 2010 alone, over 800 new patients were referred to the Cancer Center - 550 to Medical Oncology and 250 to Radiation Oncology. In total, the Rideout Cancer Center provided consultative and ongoing care for over 28,500 patient visits. Breast, lung, colorectal and prostate cancers continue to account for the majority of patient referrals treated at the Cancer Center annually. The Cancer Center is the result of a joint venture between Fremont-Rideout Health Group and the UC Davis Health System.

"This unique affiliation with U.C. Davis has given us an opportunity to extend our cancer program to help people in our community," said Susan Vague, Administrator of the Rideout Cancer Center.

State-of-the-art technology is a cornerstone of services available at the center. A high-energy, dual-photon linear accelerator and simulation equipment helps radiation therapists plan more precisely the exact dose of radiation required to kill the tumor while sparring healthy tissue. Three-dimensional treatment planning computers improve their ability to target cancer margins, a layer of cells surrounding the tumor that must be destroyed for cancer to be successfully treated.

Telemedicine, another important service, gives Yuba-Sutter physicians access to UC Davis tumor board meetings, grand rounds and other educational events. It allows them to consult with UC Davis faculty on patient care issues or have UC Davis oncology specialists examine patients. The technology uses high-speed digital lines to transmit medical data as well as video and audio for long distance consultations.

Scott Christensen, M.D. & Medical Director of FRCC and U.C. Cancer Care Network stated, "We thank the patients who place their faith and trust in us on a daily basis. We look forward to the future with eager anticipation."

Future Expansion Plans

In order to accommodate significant patient growth, we are now working on our Cancer Expansion Project. The remodel will allow us to continue to grow and provide the highest quality of care to our patients, and meet the current needs of our community. There will be fourteen infusion chairs, a new linear accelerator vault, PET/CT Suite, four exam rooms, clinic station physician offices and expanded pharmacy. Groundbreaking is expected soon and we look forward to what the future holds for us.

Cancer Center History

The Cancer Center opened in September 2000 driven by the vision of the Rideout Health leadership team, a long list of steering committee members, health care planners and the support of their joint venture partner UC Davis Health System.

In ten years, the Cancer Center has grown from treating 20-30 patients a day to a premier cancer treatment center that provides care for 28,500 patient visits a year.

State-of-the-art Cancer Care and Compassion: Close to Home

The Cancer Center provides a broad range of hematology, oncology and radiation therapy - provided by fellowship-trained physicians, oncology-certified nurses and other cancer treatment specialists. Its strong ties with UC Davis Health System offers access to clinical trials of the latest advancements in cancer treatment.

Beyond providing medical treatment, the Cancer Center extends care in an environment devoted to supporting the emotional well-being of its patients and families - the center gives patients and their families a place for treatment that is pleasant and comfortable.
