Have a Ball at the Helping Hands Bowl-a-Thon March 31

The First-ever Helping Hands Bowl-a-thon will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Nu Generation Lanes, (www.nugenerationlanes.com), 976 Onstott Frontage Road West, in Yuba City.

Organized by Jonathan Amaro, a senior at Live Oak HS, for a community service project, the event will benefit the Patient Discretionary Fund at the Rideout Cancer Center, an affiliation with UC Davis Health System.

The Fund helps patients in need who are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy treatments, may not be able to work and need financial assistance for necessities such as basic necessities like socks, toiletries, etc...; food, fuel; medical equipment or utility bills.

Since August 2008, 225 cancer patients have benefitted from the Patient Discretionary Fund, which has covered more than $41,000 in these expenses.

The registration donation for the Bowl-a-thon is $ 20 per bowler, and includes two games, rental shoes and balls.

Teams of up to five players can sign up for one of the 40 lanes. Individuals also may participate and will be matched with others to form a team. In addition to the registration fee, each bowler is encouraged to raise $50 or more from their family, friends -- and fans.

Local businesses are invited to sponsor a team, contribute Silent Auction prizes or make a donation to the Rideout Foundation, which will collect the proceeds from the event on behalf of the Cancer Center's Patient Discretionary Fund.

Registration forms and pledge sheets can be picked up at the Nu Generation Lanes or the Cancer Center or downloaded from on the Cancer Center's website at www.frhg.org/cancercenter.

For more information, interested bowlers and businesses can get more information from Jonathan's project mentor, Nancy Kirkpatrick at The Rideout Cancer Center, at 749-4400, ext. 1686, or by email to nkirkpatrick@frhg.org.
