Dance With Our Stars: $78,000 for Rideout Emergency Dept Expansion and the American Red Cross of Northeastern California

Celebrity Dancers Cut A Rug for Two Great Causes

More than 800 people attended the second annual "Dance With Our Stars" event on June 1 and June 2 at Colusa Casino Resort. This year the beneficiaries of the event were the Rideout Emergency Department Expansion project and the American Red Cross of NE California. More than $78,000 was raised by celebrity dancers and sponsorships.

Proceeds are earmarked for:

The Rideout Foundation so that they may contribute to the on-going success of the FRHG by supporting capital improvement projects, equipment and programs benefitting patients and the community. Proceeds from DWOS 2012 will go towards the Emergency Department Expansion. The enlarged facility will increase the total number of beds to 37.

The American Red Cross of Northeastern, which last year provided financial assistance to 221 Families after a local disaster, trained 443 members from the community how to become a disaster response volunteer, were the emergency messenger between 297 military members and their families and trained 12,208 people how to save a life thru First Aid, CPR & water safety classes. They provide all of these services thru private donations and the time and talent of their volunteers.

The annual event featured Yuba, Sutter and Colusa community members and local physicians.

Dance lineup on June 1 included:

Dr. Praveen Prasad (Rideout Neurosurgeon) with pro, Amanda Rose; Russell Marsan, National Sales Manager, Green Traks with pro, Michele Blake; Dan Blair, Govt. Affairs Rep., PG&E with pro, Marcie Andrews; Robin Walther (retired) with pro, Alex Cesena; Coleen Morehead, Clear Strategies with pro, Rick Cusack.

Dance lineup on June 2 included:
Kevin Cotter, New Earth Market with pro, Jacque Dake; Rich Gabel, Frank M. Booth, Inc., with pro, Luz Uribe; Dr. Karanbir Grewal, Cardiologist with pro, Angelika Klug; Grace Espindola, Sutter County Schools with pro, John Liburdi; Jennifer Traynham, Publisher, Me & Mine Magazine with pro, Demitri Blizzeard.

The competition was judged by Scott Kaufan, Owner, Midtown Stomp, Sacramento, Martin Casillas, President, Capital Swing Dancers; Lindsey Heaton, VP, Capital Swing Dancers. Attendees had the opportunity to fundraise by purchasing $1 tickets for their favorite dance team performance during the competition. Three prizes were awarded each evening: Voters Choice —the most money earned by celebrity dancer before the event; People's Choice — the most money from $1 ticket sales the evening of the event; and Judges Choice.

Judge's Choice winners June 1 were: Russell Marsan, GreenTraks, Marysville and Michele Blake, ED, Sutter County Children and Families Commission. Both the Voters Choice and People's Choice awards went to: Praveen Prasad, a Neurosurgeon at Rideout and Amanda Rose, Jacque's Dance Expressions.

Judge's Choice winners June 2 were: Jenn Traynham, Publisher, Me and Mine Magazine and Demitri Blizzeard, Dancer/Choreographer, Jacque's Dance Expressions. Jenn and Demitri tied for first place with Kevin Cotter, co-Owner New Earth Market and Jacque Dake, Jacque's Dance Expressions, but won out with a lively "Cheer-off ". Voter's Choice also went to Jenn and Demitri. People's Choice went to: Karanbir Grewal, MD, an Interventional Cardiologist and Angelika Klug, Yuba County Children's Protective Services.

"Wow! What an uplifting event!" stated Carol Ramirez, VP, Rideout Foundation. "We are so appreciative to all of our cast. These great folks literally worked their rears off for months to prepare for the event. Not kidding! Every one of them lost weight and inches. Each Celebrity also raised $5,000 or more for charity to participate."

"We are so blessed to have had such amazing volunteers," said Martha Griese, Director Red Cross of NE California, "including our backstage narrator, Joe Moye and our emcees Dr. and Baron Harper on June 1, and Amy and Dean Tokuno on June 2. Our three judges were volunteers too. And, Colusa Casino underwrote the entire two evenings, including lights and sound. That's true commitment."
