I am pleased to announce the appointment of L. Wayne Mills as Chief Financial Officer for Rideout Health Group.
Wayne brings to us three decades of experience in all the financial aspects of healthcare, and an understanding of the aspects of finance, and the special challenges of delivering healthcare in rural and smaller communities. He shares our mission and commitment to community-based, non-profit systems. His strong financial management skills and his success in developing financing for major hospital projects were also key factors in my selecting Wayne for this important job.
Wayne comes to Rideout after 10 years in Oakdale, as CFO for Catholic Healthcare West in the Oak Valley Hospital District, where among his achievements were upgrading and expanding rural healthcare clinics, implementing a five-year information systems plan for fully electronic medical records and imaging files, and developing the financial strength and funding for a hospital replacement project.
From 1993 to 2001, Wayne was Associate Administrator and CFO for Brim Healthcare in the San Benito Health Care District in Hollister, which included two hospitals. There he was responsible for the establishment of the Child Health Disability Program, Home Health Agency and several other community healthcare programs, and for increasing the non-profit’s Foundation funds 948%, from $421,000 to more than $4 million.
After military service in the U.S. Air Force, Wayne earned his BA and MBA in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in Arizona. He has been a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association since 1996 and serves on their Rural Healthcare Taskforce. He is a founding member of the Alpha Council of the non-profit Association of California Healthcare Districts and served as the Council’s Chair, 2008-2010.
Wayne will feel right at home with the strong tradition of volunteerism in our community. He has been active in Rotary since the 1980s and has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow from 1984 to the present. He also has been a volunteer with and a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and the American Heart Association.
Please join me in welcoming him to the FRHG family, and he and his wife Carol to the Yuba-Sutter Community.
