Pastoral Care Week is proud to celebrate our 26th year anniversary from October 23- 29, 2011. Organizations and institutions throughout the world will recognize the spiritual care given through professional chaplaincy and pastoral counseling within our communities. Chaplains, pastoral care counselors, educators and care providers for all faiths and spiritualities will share in this year's theme, "VOICES SHARED": Joining together to empower, express and educate!".
Regardless of faith tradition, whether clergy or not, Pastoral Care Week celebrates those who provide pastoral care to others. It is endorsed by the Congress on Ministries in Specialized Settings (COMISS), whose members provide care in specialized settings such as hospitals, prisons, businesses, industries, long term care facilities, pastoral counseling centers, hospices, military settings, nursing homes, corporations, congregations of sisters, priests and brothers, schools and universities throughout the world.
This year's theme, "Voices Shared" highlights the journey of finding unity in the midst of our diversity, empowering the voice of those with whom we work, and claiming our own voice as Pastoral/Spiritual caregivers. The narrative states that the universe brings our voices together. In the 2011 logo (below), the figures depict the harmony and empowerment when voices are shared. Some arms are lifted up to share the joy, some are outstretched to embrace the pain, and some are reaching down to lift others up--or to be lifted up.
Many institutions will celebrate Pastoral Care Week by honoring the important, often unrecognized, work and gifts of pastoral care givers locally and internationally. Among the variety of celebrations will be hand-blessing ceremonies for health workers; open houses; poetry jams by clients; lecture series and luncheons. Please visit www.pastoralcareweek.org for more information.
All are invited to join us as we honor and recognize the work and gifts of pastoral care givers locally and internationally who daily lift their arms to share joy, who stretch out their arms to embrace pain, and who reach down to lift others up.
