MARYSVILLE, Calif., July 30, 2014 —Gino Patrizio has been named Interim Chief Operating Officer for Rideout Health, reporting directly to CEO Theresa Hamilton. Based at Rideout Memorial, Mr. Patrizio will oversee operations of the non-profit's two acute care hospitals, surgery center and cancer center, with a focus on the transition to the new facilities of the Rideout Regional Medical Center opening next year and on compliance with Medicare and other regulatory standards.
Prior to joining Rideout, Mr. Patrizio spent four years with Southwest Healthcare System in southern California, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, a Fortune 500 health facility management company. As COO for Southwest, he was responsible for the oversight of its two acute care hospitals, transforming their Environment of Care and overseeing more than 15 active construction projects.
Mr. Patrizio earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Harvard University. He was on the Dean's List there and was awarded Varsity letters in Volleyball and Track & Field. He earned his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he won awards in criminal justice and civil trial practice. In 1995, he was admitted to both the State Bar of California and to the United States District Court, Southern District of California. He practiced law in San Diego for 10 years, with an emphasis on healthcare and compliance issues, representing providers such as Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, Kaiser Permanente and the University of California, publishing several appellate opinions on medical issues.
Given his interest and experience in healthcare, Mr. Patrizio went on to earn his Master's degree in Health Administration at the University of Southern California's School of Policy, Planning and Development with a Dean's Certificate of Merit as "Outstanding Graduate Student, 2006." Following the completion of his MHA, Mr. Patrizio joined Health Management Associates, which operates 60 acute care hospitals across the U.S. During his Florida-based tenure, he served first as Assistant Hospital Administrator at Brooksville Regional Hospital where he developed several cardiology services, and as Chief Operating Officer of Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, where he oversaw several major construction projects and introduced and led initiatives that improved patient satisfaction scores for its Emergency and Outpatient services.
Mr. Patrizio is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and certified in the National Incident Management Systems. His civic involvements include membership in Rotary International and coaching YMCA youth basketball.
Rideout Health is the independent, non-profit, community-based healthcare organization that operates Rideout Memorial Hospital, Fremont Medical Center, the Rideout Cancer Center and other medical facilities around the Yuba-Sutter region. It also is the area's largest non-government employer. In fulfillment of its mission to provide quality healthcare to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance, in recent years the organization provided about $50 million annually in unreimbursed or free medical care to uninsured or under-insured patients.
