Rideout Cancer Center Gets Blued to Knock Out Colon Cancer

Marysville, February 26, 2014, Rideout Cancer Center, In Partnership with UC Davis One in 20 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer. It's a scary statistic and it's one of the reasons whyRideout Cancer Center is hosting a Dress In Blue Day event on Friday, March 7th, 2014 from 10am to 2pm to help incite awareness of colon cancer, a disease that can be prevented through screening but is still the second leading cause of overall cancer deaths in the United States.

The event is free of charge and will feature a "Strollin Colon" provided by a Sanofi Aventis Drug Representative. Educational materials and kits for testing for colorectal cancer will be provided. A Covered California Representative will be available to answer questions from the community during the event. Rideout Cancer Center staff will wear blue to bring awareness to Colon Cancer.

"If you are over 50, African-American, and/or have a family history of colon cancer, you are at a higher risk of developing the disease. The good news is that there is much you can do to prevent and/or treat the disease," said Lorna Yatman, RN. "We invite you to learn more about Colon Cancer and the opportunity to sign up for health insurance." The Colorectal screening kits will be available from March 7th through March 14th. We are located at 618 5th Street in Marysville, CA. You can call us at 749-4270, ext. 1603 for more information.

NationalDress in Blue Day is held on the first Friday in March in communities and offices throughout the nation. The Colon Cancer Alliance first launched the Dress in Blue Day program in 2009 to bring nationwide attention to colon cancer and to celebrate the courage of those affected by this disease. Today, individuals, businesses and community groups across the country participate by wearing blue and urging others to do the same. Blue is the nationally recognized color for colon cancer. By "getting blued," we hope to raise public awareness and save lives.
