The Rideout Foundation and American Red Cross (ARC) officials announced this year's dancers during a dinner at the Fremont-Rideout Health Group Conference Center on December 2nd. The first annual Dance with Our Stars benefit will take place April 15 at Colusa Casino Resort, 3770 California 45, Colusa. The event is a spinoff of the hit television show "Dancing With the Stars."
"We're hoping Dance with Our Stars will be a big hit and will grow larger each year," said Carol Ramirez, FRHG VP, Community Relations, Foundation and Marketing. "Everyone we talk to about it is so excited about the possibilities. We think it's going to be a sell-out performance."
"The event is extremely important in helping the Foundation and the ARC raise money," she said. "Especially with the current economy and funding cutbacks."
Ramirez said determining the winner of Dance with Our Stars is based on whoever raises the most money: People's Choice Award -- and dancing ability: Judges Choice Award. "Each dancer is paired up with a talented 'professional' who will make sure that everyone has a chance to win."
Participants receive 12 free dance lessons with a professional through Studio B, Twin Cities Dancer and Robert Sowell. A dancing professional will teach each celebrity the steps and guide them through the process. The dancers will perform 2 styles of dances. All six dancers will perform the Tango as their first dance and the second one is the dancer's choice.
The April 15 event is presented by FRHG and ARC and Colusa Casino Resort. Doors open at 6p.m., desserts will be served at 6:30pm and dancing begins at 7pm. Tickets are $25 each and can be reserved by calling the FRHG at 530 751-4070.
