Today: February 22, 2012

For the past five years, along with delivering quality care to the community, our organization has been focused on realizing its vision of “a regional medical center offering advanced medicine and a full continuum of healthcare services.” Cost controls, increased efficiencies, quality score improvements, technology investments, and recruiting the best and brightest medical professionals, have all played a part in the pursuit of this vision. Now, all that hard work — by all of you — has taken us a giant step closer to making the vision a reality.

On May 26, management made a recommendation to the Board of Directors of the Fremont-Rideout Health Group to approve and begin the Tower project. The board approved the plans and the commitment of funds for a construction and development program that will expand the footprint and facilities of the Rideout campus and create a truly 21st century medical center, occupying six square blocks in historic Marysville.

The expansion will include the much-anticipated enhancements to the Emergency Department, already a Level III trauma center and STEMI-receiving center. It will nearly double the size of our renowned Cancer Center, which 11 years ago was a bold new venture with UC Davis, that became a model for similar facilities around the state. And, the construction program will include a brand new six-floor hospital building and tower, connected to the current structure, and complete with a rooftop heliport for Life Flight operations.

Of course, all of this takes money and without a firm financial footing, it would not have been possible to move forward. But, thanks to the tremendous efforts of every one of you, our results this year have continued to be positive. As of April, our Net Operating Revenue for the Year To Date is more than 12% ahead of goal, and our Total Income for those 10 months is an astounding 190.7% ahead of budget. (That is not a typo!)

As a truly non-profit organization, these rosy numbers represent not stockholder dividends but money that we can re-invest in our facilities, our people and our patients. The Board of Directors recognized these positive trends, and voted for the vision.

It’s an exciting time for all of us at Fremont-Rideout as, amid myriad challenges, we move ahead together to build, literally and figuratively, a healthcare organization that brings the best in medical services and facilities to the Yuba-Sutter region. As always, I thank you for the important part you play in making our vision a reality.
